Fantasy News
Here is where we list the significant news from around the NFL training camps that could have an affect on the rankings. Unlike TSN, we know that you aren't really interested in third string lineman, or fifth string tight ends. We give you the important stuff.

Updates August 1, 2002:
Jay Fiedler QB- MIA
Jay Fiedler started practicing yesterday on his first day back since his hip replacement surgery. He will resume full time practices shortly.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-Jay finally has a decent offense around him, so he could be a decent sleeper. Don't expect too much, he still is an injury risk.

Kurt Warner QB- STL
Kurt reported no lingering problems in his throwing thumb, although there was speculation that he was still hurting. Some of you expressed concern in your emails about him. Don't worry about him.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-Number one. No questions.

DeShaun Foster RB- CAR
Panthers coaches and people that have been watching Carolina practices are amazed at Foster's speed and ability. They say he's looked better than any running back they've ever had. [Biakatuka anyone?]
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-This guy could be a top twenty back. Don't draft Lamar Smith, unless you're in some ridiculously high league with like 20 people in it.

Updates July 31, 2002:

Micheal Westbrook WR- CIN:
Westbrook fractured his left wrist and will need surgery. He's definite to miss the rest of training camp and possibly the 1st couple of regular season games (assuming all goes well).
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-Westbrook was looking like a decent fantasy pick up to this incident. Losing all the valuable time of working with the offense and getting used to everything will definitely hurt his value. Consider still picking him in your draft and having to maybe wait out the first few games (he may even play the opener).

Jamal Lewis RB- BAL:
Lewis, coming back from a knee ligament injury, has been held out of contact drills, meaning he isn't fully recovered. The team has also reportedly asked him to lose some weight.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-This is more of a precautionary step than a necessary one. Lewis is expected to return to his old form (which was very good, but not top notch yet), however, unless you see great reports on him, or he shows some good moves, he shouldn't be taken higher than 20.

David Boston WR- ARI:
Boston has been playing through his knee tendinitis and has missed a few practices. Despite the problem, he has been very boston-like in practice, showing off all the moves that made him a top receiver last season.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-It is always a tough choice to go with a WR that has any kind of leg injury, especially one of boston's calibar because you don't know if you will end up the one lookin good for the pick, or gettin laughed at. If boston appears to be playing the same in practice, he is a top pick unless something sets him back.

Jerramy Stevens TE- SEA:
Jerramy Stevens, the rookie tight end holdout for the Seahawks, finally came to terms with a deal that will pay him .2 million over 5 years.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-There is still a chance that Ituli Mili will win the starting job, so don't take Jerramy too high. Worth a good look in keeper leagues, however.

Rod Gardner WR- WAS:
Rod Gardner, who was overshadowed and overlooked last year because of Michael Westbrook's presence, is the clear cut #1 WR this year. He has looked good in practice, and is definately a top twenty candidate.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-Rod Garder is indeed one of this year's top sleepers, but he is often taken very late in drafts. Wait until about 25-30 receivers have been taken, then think about going after him.

Updates July 30, 2002

Tim Couch RB- CLE
Tim Couch is reportedly suffering from tendinitis in his throwing elbow, so he will take it light for the first few weeks of camp.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-A bad sign for a bad quarterback. For those of you holding out hope that he still has big time potential, you migth want to drop him down on your list now.

Donte' Stallworth WR- NO
Donte' Stallworth, the rookie wide receiver for the Saints, signed a six year deal, only missing out on three days of training camp.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-Of all the rookie wide outs, Donte' has the best chance of escaping the "Curse of the Rookie Wide Receiver". Don't draft him too high, however.

Germane Crowell WR- DET
Germane Crowell is still a long ways away from being able to fully participate in practice.
FANTASY PERSCRIPTION-Germane Crowell was one of those talented sleepers lots of people put alot of stock in last year, but this year, Schroeder and Az-Hakim are already there in front of him. Don't draft him early, if at all.
