Sleepers and Busts for the 2002 Season
Here are some players we either expect big things from or overrated poor performances out of. |

Here are some players we think will either bust or breakout.
|
Quarterbacks
Sleepers-
Brian Greise- Awesome skills but big injury risk, often overlooked in many leagues
Trent Green- Has potential to be a decent QB and being in training camp and working with WR will help him this year, decent late pick
Drew Bledsoe- Strong arm but 1st year with new team, keep an eye on him for your draft.
Michael Vick- Nothing special as far as passing numbers go but could run for a ton of rushing yards
Busts
Rich Gannon- We feel his productive years are over, he is still an above average QB but not as good as past years, do NOT waste an early pick on him.
Tom Brady- Not much to say, he wasn't a very good fantasy QB anyways, and wont be any better. Hint-Superbowl rings don't win fantasy leagues.

Running Backs
Sleepers
Duce Staley- Consistent all around RB, has the potential for good rushing stats and is a decent receiver, we like to refer to him as "Marshall Faulk's mini- me", nice sleeper.
Jamal Lewis- Showed amazing potential in 1st year but was injured, he is a good pick as a 3rd or 4th RB in many leagues.
Thomas Jones- Now the feature back and could break out, don't expect top ten numbers but keep an eye on him.
Clinton Portis- T. Davis' main backup in DEN and with Davis' injury history, he wouldnt be a bad "hope the starter gets hurt". pick
Busts
Duece Mcallister- Lots of hype over a guy with no proof, dont waste an early pick just as you wouldnt waste an early pick on a rookie.
Michael Bennett- Not a bad pick, but not a good one either. We dont think he's bad but certainly not an elite RB yet

Wide Receivers
Sleepers
Bobby Shaw- Turned down a contract with the Steelers to play for the Jags. He is confident he will start and make an impact in order to get a big deal as a free agent next year.
Koren Robinson- Talented athlete who can make all the plays but was overshadowed because of poor play, the emergence of D. Jackson, and a bad QB. His QB isnt any better but his raw talent can make up for that and he could have a big year.
Willie Jackson- Recently signed with the Falcons and is their current #1 WR. He had a pretty good year last season but never seemed to light it up with the presence of Joe Horn in NO. Now he runs the show and with a wicked QB in Vick, look out for the big plays here!
Busts
Tim Brown- One of the most consistent WR's in the last 5 years and is Mr. Consistent, however, we think that with a new coach with a new system and Gannon slowing down, his production could be limited. Still a nice pick.
Keyshawn Johnson- KJ seems to be a great WR with all the talk and high rankings but have his numbers shown us a reason to think that way? NO... we dont know whether to risk a pick on him or not, so we're gonna keep him as a potential bust

Tight Ends
Sleepers
Jeremy Shockey
Jerramy Stevens
Alge Crumpler
Busts
Tony Gonzalez- Upset with contract and hurt ankle playing bball... stay away (dont go picking him early and saying he's as good as a WR, wait for another TE later)
Bubba Franks- Too many 1-yd TD's last year, defenses will figure him out and shut him down on those goal line passes. Don't consider him top 5 for now.
|
Kickers
Sleepers
Jeff Chandler- Plenty of chances when SF gets within the 30 yd line and is stopped. (They did that alot last year)
Kris Brown- No more tough kicking conditions in Heinz Field. He will be on a Texans team that COULD move the ball and get stopped near the goal line= many FG chances. Nice sleeper
Busts
Todd Peterson- Expect him to get benched after kicking on that beach. (formally known as Heinz Field)
